JOB PURPOSE
The purpose of this position is to support the implementation of the Integrated Management of Acute Malnutrition (IMAM) programs in Turkana West Sub-County, nutrition surveillance and assessment including Mass Screening, and Promotion of Maternal infant, and young child nutrition(MIYCN). The incumbent will report and work under the guidance of the Program Manager WASH.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Key Responsibilities
Implementation of the nutrition response at IsraAID Kenya area of operations while ensuring adherence to the stipulated protocols.
Implement a comprehensive Maternal Infant and Young Child nutrition Program with strong BFHI and BFCI approaches.
Promote the implementation of breastfeeding program.
Support capacity building and OJT for Community Outreach Workers through the identification of capacity gaps and supporting training.
Support the systematic implementation of Behaviour Change Communication of health and nutrition best practices to the community.
Prepare and deliver culture-sensitive awareness and educational nutritional messages to the community
Offer nutrition support through counselling individuals with medical complications including comprehensive care clinic clients.
Conduct regular Mass screening for children under five in collaboration with Community Health Volunteers/Community Outreach Workers.
Recognize, diagnose, and care for individuals suffering from malnutrition.
Effectively and comprehensively implement appropriate referral pathways for malnutrition cases.
Monitor the progress of patients who have been referred to nutrition management programs/ feeding programs.
Develop, implement, and revise nutritional guidelines tailored for specific needs with a bias for cultural sensitivity.
Compile and submit donor and IsraAID Nutrition program reports on a weekly, biweekly, and monthly basis of all implemented activities.
Liaise with the Procurement Department in logistical program supplies, procurement, and monitoring of supply control.
Monitor and review nutrition supplies and equipment movements such as deliveries, storage, transport, and utilization at the site level.
Any other duties assigned by the supervisor.
REQUIRED EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND TECHNICAL COMPETENCIES:
Hold a minimum of a Diploma in Food Nutrition and dietetics from a recognized institution.
Must be registered with KNDI (Kenya Nutritionist & Dieticians Institute)
Minimum 3 years experience within an INGO/NGO in implementing community nutrition programs.
Experience in Maternal infant and young child nutrition with strong BFHI/BFCI approaches
Experience in nutrition survey and assessment
SKILLS:
Proven analytical, communication/ negotiation skills and ability to think strategically.
Experience in report writing and excellent computer skills.
Confident, flexible and positive personality
Strong planning and implementation capacity.
PHYSICAL ENVIRONMENT AND DEMANDS:
Ability to work in hardship areas (previous experience in a camp setting will be an added advantage)

High contact: Frequent interaction with Children
LANGUAGES
Essential: English and Kiswahili
